Sermon Notes

Below are sermon notes from the November 27th sermon I preached at the H2O Gathering.
It had a Chronicles of Narnia tie in, which is why the title includes Turkish Delights!

Tempting Turkish Delights

1. Temptation is from our own evil desires.

Temptation comes from the lure of our own evil desires. These evil desires lead to evil actions, evil actions lead to death. James 1:16(NLT)

2. The Downward Spiral of Temptation
a. Desire
b. Evil Action/Sin
c. Death- "The Wages of sin is death..." Romans 3:23

Our Response

1. Recognize Temptation

2. Embrace Truth
a. It is not God who tempts me.
When tempted, no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone. James 1:16-17 (NIV)

b. You're not alone
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man." 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet without sin." Hebrews 4:15(NIV)

3. Accept God's Escape Plan
"And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
