Trick or Treat

Just a quick thought to start off with...iPods are really awesome. Ok, so I know that I am behind the curve, but I love mine!

Church went pretty well on Sunday. There was a real sweet spirit during worship (the singing part of worship, anyway). I think if there is a prayer of mine for worship, it is that I would be free to express my love of God. If it meant to jump, then I'd jump, to cry out..then I would cry out. Along with that, I pray that those in the congregation would begin to be free to worship and express their hearts to God.

The weekend was good. Mom and Dad came down for the award banquet on Saturday night. Andrea and I got to hang out on Friday night, which was much needed. We have both been so busy. It will be really nice when she is done with graduate school...of course I will probably start then!

Andrea is supposed to hear back from a Elementary school today about a job. It would be a real blessing if she was hired. But we also know that God has already provided for us.

Tonight is Halloween. It will be fun because we'll have around 150 kids come to our house in our neighborhood. Alot of people from church stop by to let us see their kids costumes. It will be fun!

Steelers and Ravens tonight...Steve's fearless prediction....Steelers 24 Ravens 10

Just Sitting At My Desk

It has been really raining here in Delaware. Mom and Dad were down for the weekend. Dad helped me put in a sidewalk. It looks good. They will be back this weekend for the award banquet.

Yesterday was my birthday..27!! I had to get my driver's liscense renewed on Monday. Wow! What a difference between the current and the one from 4 1/2 years ago when we moved to DE!! I look a lot older in the new one..and a little beefier (although I don't know if that is a good thing!)

Character counts! I read that somewhere on a billboard or something. Today in my devotions, I read Psalms chapter one. It talked about how those who stay away from the unrighteous will be blessed. It made me think of a Will Smith (the great actor/prophet/teacher/rapper) quote that I recently read. He said, "Take a close look at your five closest friends and you'll find out who you are." When we surround ourselves with Godly people, or people earnestly seeking Him, then we are more likley to be encouraged and to seek Him. If we surround ourselves with the unrighteous, with no support elsewhere, then our character will suffer.

I have great friends here in DE, although not many...but I am still seeking that one who will challenge me to grow even more. A mentor that is close at hand. That would make a great prayer request.

Now...off to play with my new iPod.

Weekend in The 'Burgh!

Spent the last weekend in Pittsburgh at the National Youth Workers Convention. I had a great time other than being a part from Andrea. That stunk. But I got to do some pretty cool stuff. I went to the Steeler game (which the lost), got to see parts of old Forbes Field (I'm a Pirates Fan), and hear some great speakers.

Mark Yaconelli led of the conference by talking about Compassion. There are times in the gospels where Jesus looks over the crowd and has compassion on them. He feels deeply for them. Mark challenged us to see our students compassionatly.

I must admit that I sometimes don't feel compassion for some students. I am guilty of writing a student off. God has really convicted me of this over the weekend. Just because someone shows not interested, or gives the cold shoulder doesn't mean that I should stop caring or praying for that person.

Among many lessons, this is the one that sticks in my mind. God, give me compassion and love for those who are tough to love. Help me to reach out to those who don't know they need reached. Help me to step outside of my comfort zone and touch those who need your touch. Let me be your hands and feet. Amen.
